Unapproved genetically modified wheat plants have been discoved in a field in Washington, USA on 7 June 2019 according to a United States Department of Agriculture announcement. The plants are resistant to glyphosate, an active ingredient of weedkiller known as Roundup made by Monsant.
A spokeman for the Monsanto suggested that the plants that were found could be part of trial of GM varieties in the 90s and 00s that Monsanto was developing but drop due to conserns of the public.
There are no ecidence that the genetic modified wheat have entered the food supply.
